  • Great place to stay!

Stayed here after 7 days hiking on the GSWW. Great welcome, hospitality, breakfast, location, and facilities. Very relaxing. The hosts are lovely and have made the cottage a home away from home. We are already planning our next stay here!

  • Friendly and warm place to stay for the solo traveller.

I had a lovely time with Jo and Paul at Nelson Cottage. It was off season, so things were quiet but the hospitality was warm and inclusive. I bought a package which included support for walks, including a packed lunch, and that was great.

  • Perfect B&B experience

The most thoughtfully renovated and comfortable traditional B&B experience - we stayed in the constables king room complete with comfortable bed and sitting area. The shared common room is so cosy with fire and couches and the bathrooms are very practical and all you need (hot hot showers!) Jo was a generous and welcoming host. Small touches throughout like we a bathroom kit, tea and biscuits and amazing breakfast. We ordered the cooked breakfast and packed lunch - highly recommend for picnicking and exploring. Will definitely be back with friends or family to this delightful spot in quiet and beautiful Nelson.

  • My partner and I stayed here for one night only and wish that we stayed longer!

The place was so clean and smelt beautiful, I love the bathrooms - they are shared but they are so sweet! I love the painted doors : ) the rooms are just lovely, the older style house suites us we love all the details from the door handles to the high windows, room sheets are clean and warm and the pillows are good too! Breakfast was a treat, coffee is great, cute window to watch the birds eat the seeds.

The entire property has a lovely feel and atmosphere.

We cannot wait to come back.

  • Cosy cottage

These historic cottages are an excellent place to stay. Jo was a very welcoming host and had warmed our room before we arrived. The shared, cosy lounge area was a lovely place to relax after a day's driving. The shared amenities were clean, well appointed and had a heater for the colder weather. Our bed was very comfortable and we were given a delicious continental breakfast. The local hotel was a couple of doors down the road and we had a lovely dinner there. I would recommend the cottages to couples and family groups, both in summer and winter.

  • Cosy home away from home.

Me and 2 mates just had a fabulous weekend in Nelson. We stayed 2 nights at the cottage and had 2 queens and a king room in the original police station and stone addition. The rooms were clean, extremely comfortable and heated for the autumn chill.

We really appreciated Paul and Jo’s hospitality. The combustion stove in the lounge was laid each evening and burning in no time for us to enjoy over a whiskey or 3. The bathroom facilities are shared and basic but again very clean. The showers are hot and powerful. We had continental breakfasts but cooked is available. Nice to watch the birds come in to the feeder by the window as we ate.

The location is 2 mins walking distance to the pub, general store and river.

I’ve stayed here twice before and would recommend for a comfortable and homely stay while exploring this gorgeous part of the world.

  • Fabulous stay!

Jo and Paul are the perfect hosts at this historic cottage in Nelson on the south west coast of Victoria. Our accommodation was superb as were the meals prepared by Paul. This is the perfect hideaway if you're looking to escape the rat race. We stayed 4 nights while we were walking the Great South West Walk and just had a fabulous time! Many thanks to Jo and Paul for the pick-ups and deliveries each day. We hope we can return soon and just chill out for a few days.

  • Highly recommend!

Nelson Cottage is a gorgeous B&B owned by wonderful hosts Paul and Jo. Incredibly comfortable bedrooms, beautiful decor and little bits of history from when the building was a police station in the late 1800’s! Highly recommend staying here when you’re visiting Nelson 😁

  • A fantastic gem of a B&B

A fantastic little gem, with loads of charm and brilliant hosts, Jo and Paul. The dinner was gorgeous risotto with salmon and an amazing cheese cake. Take this option!

Don't be put off by the shared bathroom arrangements. It all works really well. The gents shower is in what's thought to be the forme prison cell.

  • A beautiful stay!

A wonderful couple who have renovated and run a great BnB in a picturesque and peaceful town on the SA/Victorian border.

Jo and Paul have filled their cottage with beautiful furniture, warm fireplaces and lots of boardgames.

If you're driving between Melbourne/Adelaide/Melbourne then take the coast road and spend the night here, really great experience.

    Easily five stars.

  • The Perfect Escape

We booked the Winter Warmers package - two nights accommodation, hearty breakfasts, delicious home cooked dinners plus chocolates and a bottle of red on arrival. Hosts Jo & Paul had the fires burning when we arrived on a super chilly night. Bed is super comfy and the interior of the Guest House has been tastefully renovated. Then there was the entertainment - birdlife galore at the dining room window, having their breakfast as we enjoyed ours. Close to the Glenelg River and National Park for sightseeing.

We couldn't have asked for anything more - we'll be back!

  • By far one of the most amazing experiences we’ve ever had!

The hosts were wonderful and very friendly. The cottage itself is so uniquely designed and decorated. It has a lovely atmosphere with wonderful views of gardens, trees and rabbits. We stayed in the Constable king room and it was very neat, clean and comfortable. The whole place is renovated and very well kept. The shared bathrooms are spotless and very well maintained. The dining area is beautiful with views of roses. The breakfast was amazing with bread, yoghurt, cereal and freshly brewed coffee. There is also a shared lounge which is very cosy and you can read books, play board games or watch tv. Overall, a wonderful experience, being it our first time staying in a B&B with shared facilities. Will definitely be back again!

  • A gorgeous, historic B&B, beautifully appointed with really friendly proprietors and an amazing breakfast.

My husband and I stayed at Nelson Cottage recently and we can not praise it highly enough. Both Jo and Paul, the proprietors were so friendly and helpful. We were able to park our 2 motorbikes on the concrete pathway right outside the room (not on the grass where cars would park). The room (we stayed in the Constables room) was beautifully appointed with lovely toiletries, an extremely comfortable (enormous) bed, a selection of pillows and some comfy chairs in the little adjoining lounge. The property itself is a lovely old heritage property. There were coffee bags rather than instant coffee which is a nice touch, with fresh milk in a fridge. Breakfast (we didn’t request a cooked breakfast) was excellent with whole grain bread for toast, a selection of loads of different jams, Vegemite, honey etc, some gorgeous granola, yoghurt etc. and was served in a lounge with wonderful views on the garden and colourful parrots flying in from the numerous majestic trees to eat from the bird feeder. The lounge is very comfortable with puzzles and books and a TV. There isn’t an en suite and at first we thought this might be awkward, but the facilities (just around the corner from the room) are so nicely appointed and the shower so hot and strong that it really didn’t matter at all. Mind you we were the only guests. You might want to take a dressing gown just in case there are other guests but there isn’t a problem with privacy once you’re in the shower/toilet area. We went for a long walk to the local beach and saw an Echidna and several Wallabies. We photographed a wonderful sunset across the beach. We had dinner at the Hotel bar just a few doors down (couldn’t see or hear it from the property). They finished serving at 19:45 so don’t be late but we had some great sweet potato fries and a vege stack which was delicious. If you don’t fancy eating out there is a little shop a few minutes walk away too which sells some groceries to snack on.

Overall a fantastic stay and we would not hesitate to recommend this B&B! They welcomed us as bikers and accommodated our bikes which was really nice.

  • A great place to feel right at home.

We enjoyed a lovely stay at Nelson Cottage, with a big highlight being able to meet other people, while also being able to keep to yourself if you wished. Love the history and the bird life and friendly owners. The dining room is great and has views to the bird feeder where galahs and superb wrens feed and you can watch them at length. The whole place is a blend of eras with quirkiness and charm and feels very welcoming. Many photo-worthy decorative elements. Comfy beds and everything you need. It does have shared bathroom and shared tea and coffee making facilities, so be prepared for that. All cleaned daily and lovely hot showers. The kitchenette allows you to store some food and drinks in the fridge and you can also use plates, cups, glasses, and knives and forks, microwave so you can do some basic self-catering. Really close to the lake and boat launching, the pub, kiosk, info centre, river cruise, and walks along the river. A great place to feel right at home.

  • A perfect place to stay after a beautiful walk

We had a warm welcome in a beautifully decorated place, with large and confortable rooms. Jo and Paul were wonderful hosts and the cuisine was excellent. The B&B is very well situated with beautiful walks in the area including some of the most interesting parts of the Great South West Walk. We will come back !

  • Refreshing pause during Great South West Walk

I stayed at Nelson Cottage while walking the Great South West Walk. The owners Jo and Paul provided a welcome refreshment pause with a comfortable room and a good breakfast and packed lunch as I continued walking the trail

  • A very satisfying stay. Thoroughly enjoyed it

A most amazing stay. We did 4 days of the great south west walk, and stayed here two nights. The accommodation was very comfortable, we had breakfast and dinners, which were top quality and a packed lunch for the walk. We were very impressed. And Paul kindly dropped us at walk beginnings and picked us up: if you want to walk a couple of sections I would thoroughly recommend staying here.

  • Highly recommended

I did the Great South West Walk with a couple of friends in March and stayed at Nelson Cottage for some R and R halfway through the trip. It was a great relaxing stay. Hosts Jo and Paul were really friendly and welcoming. Recently refurbished, the cottage retains the charm and style of a traditional B and B with some modern touches, esp with the artwork and decorations.

Continental breakfast is provided. (The hot breakfast, which we did not try, looked really yummy!) The urn of filtered water, constantly replenished, is a nice touch, and we welcomed filling our bladders before continuing on the second part of our walk. I’d definitely stay here again.

  • We’d go back in a heartbeat!

We loved our 3 night stay at Nelson Cottage. Jo and Paul were generous hosts, the cottage and its facilities were really clean and the breakfasts were great. We’d go back in a heartbeat - highly recommend.

We stayed at Nelson Cottage whilst on the Great South West Walk organised through Auswalk. The whole experience was great and Nelson Cottage (and Nelson) was a fabulous base.

  • Jo and Paul are the perfect hosts.

They went out of their way to assist us and made our stay very pleasant.

  • An outstanding place to stay for anyone doing the Great South West Walk.

I was so excited to find it was less than a 200m stagger from both the kiosk and pub, so no unnecessary extra walking needed. The place is beautiful, the beds are comfy, the sitting room was great, was no problem sharing amenities, cooked breakfast hit the spot and Jo&Paul were super-friendly welcoming hosts. Unfortunately for me, my body failed me after 130km and I had to abandon the walk, but Paul very kindly went out of his way to drive me all the way back to my car in Portland.

Couldn't recommend Nelson Cottage more highly.
